Growing buildings. Not manufacturing them.

6 months ago, me and my studio partner (Daniel Guerra) set out with a lofty goal: to provide an economically-feasible, eco-friendly, and highly-adaptable building system targeted towards lower-income communities. We aimed to develop a typology that would allow anyone and everyone to add on to their house, build a business, or create a community center, all with materials they grew on site.

Our case study for this is in Mexico City — a culturally vibrant place with rich history and complicated economic schema. Our proposal shows how favela-style development of a dense urban block can revitalize and invigorate a local community.
